The waste gate is properly loud and can be heard "whooshing" while driving it normally. it will still get to 5,500-6,000 rpms it just takes a lot. Nope they are exactly the same too except the Turbo coupe has ABS rings on them. As a matter of fact the part numbers are the same for them at any local auto store. certainly, it was a pretty remarkable job coming out of Ford, after its Brougham-induced brush with near-death. 87-88 turbo coupes have 10.5' vented rear rotors exactly like the 93 cobras. R&T was very complimentary about the TBird’s new exterior styling, except for the too-chromey grille. it pulls hard untill about 3,500 rpms and then it just seems to flatten out. But the 1983 Thunderbird marked a major turning point, most of all the new Turbo Coupe. the car runs well but lacks mid to upper power. i have a 88 turbo coupe 2.3 liter turbo/5 speed. It has one of the best turbo induction sounds since the exhaust is not very restrictive, and the turbo sits right next to the firewall. im new here so let me start off by saying hello. However, it still handles amazingly and goes like hell. Even with it being Front engine rear wheel drive 5 speed manual car, it is incredibly hard to drift such as a Silvia, mostly due to the pedal E brake mounted next to the clutch. But it isn't a slouch or a classic, the keeps up with alot of modern cars even with it being 25 years old. The car shows it's age in the sense of some outdated turbo equipment we're used to today, like how there isn't a blow off valve mounted to the car from factory and you have to fabricate it to fit the intercooler, things we've become custom to on modern turbo cars. The car is the ultimate sleeper, people half the time don't know what it is. The power train is shared with the Mustang SVO, but has slightly different things done to it. The car has a 2.3 Liter SOHC Turbocharged 4 cylinder producing about 200 - 230 HP at the wheels at 15Psi of boost on 93 octane fuel. This is my 1988 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe.
